Chapter 19 - The AirfieldWarren Bellamy chose the airfield because it belonged to ghosts.

Old hangars. Broken runway lights. A place where private planes once carried money, secrets, and people who were not supposed to exist.
Arthur arrived with federal agents behind him and rage ahead of him.
Warren stood near a waiting jet with Olivia beside him.
She was pale but upright.
A gun rested against her side.
Arthur stopped twenty feet away.
Warren smiled.
“Family reunions are exhausting, aren’t they?”
Arthur’s voice was calm.
“Let her go.”
“I will. After you give me the archive.”
“It’s already with federal prosecutors.”
Warren’s smile thinned.
“Copies, then.”
Arthur looked at Olivia.
She shook her head slightly.
Do not.
Warren pressed the gun closer.
Arthur stepped forward.
Warren’s men raised weapons.
Everyone froze.
Then headlights appeared behind the hangar.
A car rolled slowly into view.
Victoria got out.
Her hands were bandaged. Her face was pale. She could barely stand.
Warren looked genuinely surprised.
“Victoria.”
She walked toward him.
Arthur hissed, “Get back.”
Victoria ignored him.
Warren laughed softly.
“My disappointing daughter returns.”
Victoria stopped ten feet from him.
“I remembered something.”
Warren tilted his head.
“What?”
“You always said love makes people predictable.”
“It does.”
She nodded.
“That’s why you never understood Arthur. You thought he came here because he loves Olivia.”
Arthur stared at her.
Victoria continued, “He came because he loves his children. Which means he didn’t come alone.”
Warren’s expression shifted.
Too late.
Maya’s voice came through a speaker from one of the federal vehicles.
“We’re safe.”
Noah’s voice followed, small but strong.
“You can’t use us.”
Warren looked toward the sound.
That was the half second Olivia needed.
She drove her elbow into Warren’s ribs.
Arthur lunged.
The gun fired into the air.
Agents swarmed.
Warren hit the ground under three armed men, still trying to smile through blood.
Arthur grabbed Olivia and pulled her away.
Victoria stood frozen as her father was cuffed.
Warren looked up at her.
“You were mine.”
Victoria’s eyes filled.
“No,” she said.
“I was just afraid.”
Warren was dragged toward the cars.
For the first time, he shouted.
Not threats.
Not commands.
Just fury.
Raw and powerless.
Arthur held Olivia as the sun began to rise over the broken runway.
Victoria turned to leave.
Arthur called her name.
She stopped.
He walked toward her.
For a long moment, he did not speak.
Then he said, “You saved Noah.”
Victoria looked down.
“He saved me first.”
Arthur frowned.
“He made me want to be someone who deserved to save him.”
Arthur’s expression softened, but only slightly.
“I can’t erase what you did.”
“I know.”
“I can’t give you back what we had.”
Victoria nodded.
“It was built on a lie.”
Arthur looked toward Olivia, then toward the convoy where Warren Bellamy sat powerless behind glass.
“What will you do?”
Victoria’s smile was faint and sad.
“Tell the truth until there’s nothing left to hide.”
Arthur believed her.

That did not heal everything.
But it mattered.
