Chapter 15 - Marco’s ReturnVictory lasted six hours.

At 9:42 p.m., Dominic received a video.

Marco appeared on screen, sitting in a dim room.

“Hello, cousin.”

Dominic’s hand tightened around the phone.

Clara stood beside him.

Marco smiled. “By now, you think Nolan is finished. He probably is. But Nolan was never the real threat.”

The video shifted.

A warehouse.

Men moving boxes.

Old Raines symbols stamped on crates.

Dominic went pale.

Marco continued, “While you were busy becoming respectable, someone kept the old business alive.”

Dominic whispered, “No.”

Clara looked at him. “What is that?”

“Smuggling routes,” he said. “Closed years ago.”

Marco laughed from the video.

“Not closed. Transferred. Your signatures are still on the original shell companies. Imagine the headlines. Dominic Raines lied under oath. Dominic Raines never left.”

The video ended with one sentence.

Withdraw from every city contract by noon, or I release everything.

Clara stared at the dark screen.

“Can he do that?”

Dominic was silent too long.

Elise arrived within twenty minutes.

Her verdict was grim.

“The documents may be old, but if Marco has been operating under dormant entities still tied to Dominic’s inheritance, the public will not wait for nuance.”

Dominic stood at the window, looking down at Chicago.

“I should withdraw.”

Clara turned sharply. “No.”

“This is bigger than us.”

“It is exactly us.”

He faced her.

Clara stepped closer.

“Marco is using your fear of becoming your father. Nolan used your fear of hurting me. Sloane used her fear of being nobody. Everyone is being controlled by shame.”

Dominic said, “This is not a speech, Clara. This is federal prison.”

“Then we go to the authorities first.”

Elise nodded slowly. “Voluntary disclosure.”

Dominic looked at her.

“It’s risky,” Elise said. “But if Marco is actively committing crimes under old entities, cooperation is your strongest protection.”

Dominic looked at Clara.

“You understand what happens if I walk into a federal office with this?”

“Yes.”

“You may lose everything.”

Clara took his hand.

“I did not marry everything.”
