Chapter 4 - The Legal AmbushThe office of Victoria Vance sat on the top floor of a glass high-rise downtown. The cool leather chairs and quiet hum of air conditioning felt like a sanctuary compared to the chaos outside.

Victoria listened in complete silence as I played the video recording on my phone. She watched Tyler pouring the milk, heard his words—"The baby can have formula. Mom needs this more"—and examined the certified weight chart from Dr. Aris.
When the video finished, Victoria closed her laptop and leaned back, adjusting her gold-rimmed glasses.
"This is one of the most severe cases of enmeshment and covert domestic abuse I have seen in my twenty years of family law," Victoria said, her voice sharp and precise. "Your husband didn't just steal property, Sarah. He systematically compromised the nutrition and health of an infant to satisfy an unhealthy dynamic with his mother."
"Can he take Maya from me?" I asked, my voice trembling with the fear that every mother carries. "Brenda said he’s filing for full custody."
Victoria let out a short, cold laugh. "File on what grounds? That you refused to let him feed your body's secretions to his grown mother? No court in this state will grant a father primary custody when there is documented evidence that his actions directly caused an infant to fail to thrive."
She pulled out a stack of legal forms. "Here is our strategy: We file for an emergency Ex Parte Restraining Order today. We are requesting full temporary legal and physical custody of Maya, zero unsupervised visitation for Tyler, and a temporary protective order keeping him, his mother, and his sister away from your residence and work."
"What about his claims about his mother's health?" I asked. "They're already trying to turn the public against me. They're telling everyone on social media that I'm letting a cancer patient suffer."
"Let them talk," Victoria said calmly. "Public opinion doesn't rule a courtroom. Facts do. Breast milk is not a medically prescribed cancer treatment for adults. What Tyler did was illegal harvesting of human bodily fluid and child neglect. If they start a slander campaign online, we file a defamation lawsuit immediately."
An hour later, as I was leaving Victoria’s office, my phone chimed. It was an email notification from my company’s Human Resources department.
My heart dropped into my stomach.
I opened the email. It was sent from Tyler's official work email address, copying my boss, the head of HR, and several senior executives at my firm.
Subject: Urgent Personal Notification regarding Employee Sarah Miller
To HR Team, I am writing to formally notify you that my wife, Sarah Miller, is currently experiencing a severe post-partum mental health crisis. She has exhibited extreme paranoia, emotional instability, and aggressive outbursts toward my family. Last night, she locked me out of our marital home and made wild, baseless allegations. As her husband, I am deeply concerned for her well-being and her ability to perform her professional duties. I advise the company to grant her immediate unpaid medical leave while we seek psychiatric intervention.
I stood in the middle of the carpeted hallway, staring at the screen in utter disbelief.
Tyler wasn't just trying to defend himself. He was actively trying to destroy my reputation, my sanity, and my career so I would lose my income and have no way to fight him in court.
"Look at this," I said, spinning around and showing the screen to Victoria before I even reached the elevator.
Victoria read the email, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. A dark, terrifying smile spread across her face.

"Oh, Tyler just made the biggest mistake of his life," Victoria said, taking out her phone. "He used company equipment to send a fraudulent, defamatory statement to your employer to gain leverage in a custody dispute. That is tortious interference, defamation per se, and a clear violation of corporate ethics."
She looked up at me. "Sarah, go home and feed your baby. I’m going to ruin his career before the sun sets today."
