Chapter 17 - PIER 41Pier 41 had been abandoned on paper since 2009.

In reality, it was a private vault built beneath the East River, hidden under rusted warehouses and fake city permits. Vale Global used it to store encrypted servers, blackmail files, emergency cash, and secrets too ugly for Swiss banks.
Dante knew the pier.
His father had warned him never to go there.
So of course, he had always known one day he would.
Rain fell hard as Dante’s team approached from the water in two black boats. Arabella sat beside him, wearing a bulletproof vest over a black sweater. Her face was pale but calm.
Too calm.
Dante recognized that kind of calm. It came before men did reckless things.
“You stay behind me,” he said.
She looked at him.
“No.”
He sighed. “You ever listen?”
“For twelve years. It didn’t help.”
Fair.
Nico cut the engine beneath the pier. They climbed a ladder slick with algae and entered through a drainage hatch Cross had given them.
Inside, the vault hummed with cold air and servers.
Rows of blue lights blinked like mechanical eyes.
They found the first bodies near the security desk.
Two of Malcolm’s guards.
Dead before Dante arrived.
Nico crouched. “Professional.”
Dante looked ahead.
“Malcolm has someone else here.”
Arabella heard footsteps.
Slow clapping echoed through the server room.
Malcolm emerged from between two rows of machines, wearing a black overcoat over prison transport clothes. His hair was damp. His face was calm again.
Beside him stood a woman Arabella had never seen.
Tall. Blonde. Expressionless.
Dante knew her.
His face changed.
“Sofia.”
The woman smiled faintly.
“Hello, Dante.”
Arabella looked between them.
“Friend?”
“Worse,” Dante said. “Ex-wife.”
Sofia raised a gun toward Arabella.
“Technically widow, if tonight goes well.”
Malcolm looked delighted by the drama.
“You see, Arabella? Everyone has family problems.”
Dante’s voice was ice.
“You sold yourself to Vale?”
Sofia shrugged. “I sold information. Malcolm paid best.”
“You gave him my safehouse locations.”
“And you gave me years of disappointment. We all contribute.”
Arabella almost laughed despite everything. Dante Serrano having an ex-wife was somehow the least believable thing in a day full of resurrected mothers and hidden daughters.
Malcolm stepped toward a central console.
“The server wipes in six minutes. After that, your documents become emotional storytelling. Very moving. Legally useless.”
Nico whispered, “I need access.”
Dante fired at the overhead lights.
Darkness fractured the room.
Sofia shot back.
The server room exploded into chaos.
Arabella dropped behind a machine. She saw Malcolm moving toward the console and ran after him.
He turned with a knife.
She blocked badly. The blade cut her arm. Pain flashed hot.
Malcolm grabbed her by the throat.
“Still weak,” he hissed.
Arabella drove her knee into his ribs.
He staggered.
She grabbed a loose cable and wrapped it around his injured wrist.
He screamed.
“You raised me,” she gasped. “You should have known I was stubborn.”
Dante tackled Sofia across the aisle. Nico reached the console and began working.
“Four minutes,” he shouted.
Malcolm lunged for Arabella again.
A gunshot rang out.
Everyone froze.
Caleb stood at the entrance, smoke rising from the gun in his hand.
The bullet had struck Malcolm’s leg.
Caleb’s face was white.
“I told you,” he said, voice shaking. “I’m done helping you.”
Malcolm collapsed, laughing through pain.
“You think this saves you?”
“No,” Caleb said.
Then Sofia rose behind Dante, knife in hand.
Arabella saw it first.
“Dante!”
She fired.
The shot hit Sofia’s shoulder. She fell hard, cursing.
Dante looked at Arabella, surprised.
She stared back, breathing hard.
“I listen sometimes.”
Nico shouted, “Got it!”
The server lights turned green.
Every file began uploading to a dozen newsrooms, federal databases, and one private address labeled ANTONIO’S SON.

Malcolm watched his empire leave his hands in real time.
For the first time, he truly screamed.
