Chapter 10 - The Woman On The NewsBy morning, the Harrington mansion was surrounded by cameras.

Sarah had spent the night in a private hospital room under police protection. Noah slept in a clear bassinet beside her bed. Victor sat in a chair near the door, refusing to leave.
Neither of them knew how to speak normally yet.
Too much had happened.
Too much had been stolen.
A nurse entered quietly.
“Mrs. Harrington, there are reporters outside.”
Sarah looked at Victor.
He looked exhausted. Alive, but barely.
“They’ll turn this into entertainment,” he said.
Sarah gave a tired smile.
“It already sounds unbelievable.”
Victor leaned forward.
“Sarah, I swear to you, I didn’t know about your mother. I didn’t know about the trust. I didn’t know they told you I was dead.”
“I know.”
His eyes filled.
“You should hate me anyway.”
“I don’t have the energy to hate the only person who ran into that house for us.”
He lowered his head.
For a moment, they were just husband and wife again. Broken, but breathing.
Then the television mounted on the wall flashed Victoria’s face.
Sarah reached for the remote.
A news anchor spoke over footage of the mansion.
“Victoria Harrington, matriarch of the Harrington family, has released a statement through counsel denying all allegations. She claims Sarah Harrington suffered from postpartum delusions and staged last night’s events to seize control of the family estate.”
Victor stood.
“She what?”
Sarah watched the screen silently.
There was Victoria in an old photograph, elegant and cold. Then came a newer image of Sarah being escorted from the mansion, crying with Noah in her arms.
The headline beneath it read:
HARRINGTON HEIR CAUGHT IN CUSTODY BATTLE.
Sarah’s hands curled into fists.
“She’s doing it again.”
Victor turned to Evelyn, who had just entered with coffee and files.
“Can we stop this?”
Evelyn’s face was serious.
“We can answer it. But once we go public, there’s no going back.”
Sarah looked at Noah.
For months, she had stayed quiet because grief made her small. Victoria had counted on that. Daniel had counted on that.
But motherhood had changed something in her.
Fear still lived in her body.
But it no longer ruled her mouth.
Sarah looked up.
“Set up the interview.”
Victor stared at her.
“Sarah…”
She met his eyes.
“She told the world I’m unstable.”
May you like
Her voice hardened.
“So I’m going to tell the world what she did.”
