Chapter 14 - The Accountant’s ConfessionLeonard Price had numbers, and numbers did not cry.

That was what made them dangerous.
Back at Evelyn’s office, he opened a battered leather briefcase and laid out bank records, trust transfers, shell companies, and private clinic invoices.
Sarah understood almost none of it.
But Evelyn did.
With every page, her face grew colder.
“This clinic was paid through a Harrington consulting account,” she said.
Leonard nodded.
“Victoria authorized it.”
“And Daniel?”
“He approved the secondary transfers.”
Victor stood by the window, silent.
Sarah knew that silence now. He was holding himself together by force.
Leonard slid another folder across the table.
“This is the big one.”
Evelyn opened it.
Her breath caught.
“What is it?” Sarah asked.
“Royalty statements,” Evelyn said. “For Claire Bennett’s original patent family. Payments were diverted for years.”
“To Victoria?” Victor asked.
Leonard shook his head.
“To a private foundation in Daniel’s name.”
Victor turned.
“My brother stole from Sarah too?”
Leonard looked down.
“Daniel believed he was owed compensation for being the second son.”
Sarah almost laughed. Not because it was funny, but because greed had become absurd.
“My mother was dead. I was a child. And somehow Daniel felt robbed?”
Leonard’s shame deepened.
“Yes.”
Evelyn looked at Sarah.
“With this, we can go after the estate, the company, the foundation, and every person who signed off.”
Victor said, “Do it.”
Sarah looked at him.
“No.”
He blinked.
“No?”
Sarah placed one hand on the folders.
“I decide.”
Victor stepped back.
He understood.
For most of her marriage, choices had been made around her. After Victor’s disappearance, choices had been made for her. Victoria had tried to reduce her to a grieving mother on the floor.
Not anymore.
Sarah looked at Evelyn.
“I want my mother’s name restored publicly. I want the money returned to a trust for ethical medical access in her name. I want Noah protected from every Harrington who sees him as an asset.”
Evelyn smiled faintly.
“And Victoria?”
Sarah’s eyes hardened.
“I want her in court.”
Leonard cleared his throat.
“There is something else.”
Everyone looked at him.
He removed a small flash drive.
“Charles recorded a statement before he died. He said Victoria would deny everything unless the world heard him say it himself.”
Victor whispered, “You have my father’s confession?”
May you like
Leonard nodded.
“And Victoria’s motive.”
