Chapter 10 - The Federal DoorAt 10:17 p.m., the only door that opened was not one of the ballroom exits.

It was the federal entrance beneath the east wing.
Most guests had not known it existed.
That was the point.
Twelve agents entered through a reinforced internal corridor, led by Special Agent Mara Keene.
She was small, severe, and utterly unimpressed by wealth.
She walked past senators, donors, heiresses, and billionaires as though they were furniture.
Then she stopped beside my father.
“Mr. Vale.”
“Agent Keene.”
She looked at me.
“Ms. Vale, do you need medical attention?”
“I’ll accept it after Julian Ashford is in custody.”
For the first time that night, Agent Keene smiled.
“Reasonable.”
She turned.
“Julian Ashford, you are being detained pending charges including assault, witness intimidation, conspiracy, and obstruction.”
Julian went white.
“No. No, this is insane. Dad!”
Malcolm did not move.
That was the final betrayal.
Julian had thought his father would burn the world for him.
But Malcolm Ashford only loved his son as an extension of his empire.
And now that Julian had become evidence, not legacy—
he was disposable.
Agents took Julian by the arms.
As they walked him across the ballroom, guests stepped back.
No one laughed.
No one toasted.
May you like
No one looked away.
Not anymore.
