Chapter 5 - The Gala Was Never Just a GalaPeople began whispering.

“What does that mean?”

“What did the Ashfords do?”

“Why is Vale saying that?”

Malcolm Ashford’s polished face started to crack.

“You don’t want to do this here,” he warned.

My father smiled faintly.

“That’s exactly why I chose here.”

Another screen activated.

Then another.

Within seconds, every wall of the ballroom displayed files, dates, photographs, contracts, offshore transfers, security footage, and witness statements.

The charity gala had been advertised as a fundraiser for abused women and children.

But that was only the surface.

For six months, my father and I had been building a case against the Ashford family.

Not just Julian.

All of them.

The assault tonight had not been planned by me.

But the trap around it?

That had been waiting.

Every exit sealed.

Every camera active.

Every witness locked inside the room they had chosen to stay silent in.

My father turned to the guests.

“Tonight’s donations were supposed to fund shelters. Instead, several of you used this event to negotiate protection for men who hurt women and bought silence afterward.”

The room erupted.

“That’s not true!”

“This is defamation!”

“You can’t prove any of this!”

My father raised one hand.

The audio system played the first recording.

Malcolm Ashford’s voice filled the room.

“Pay the girl. Destroy the footage. If she talks, ruin her mother.”

May you like

No one screamed this time.

They were too busy realizing the floor had disappeared beneath them.
