Chapter 9 - The Woman Who Raised a MonsterJulian’s mother, Celeste Ashford, regained consciousness on a velvet settee near the staircase.

When she opened her eyes, she saw her son restrained.

Then she saw the screens.

Clara’s statement.

The recording.

The footage of me hitting the wall.

For one moment, something like horror crossed her face.

Then she stood.

Not to apologize.

To protect the family name.

“Harrison,” she said, voice trembling with practiced dignity. “Whatever Julian has done, destroying him publicly helps no one.”

Clara laughed once.

A broken sound.

Celeste turned sharply.

Clara stared at her.

“You came to my house.”

Celeste froze.

The screen changed again.

A photograph appeared.

Celeste Ashford standing outside Clara Wynn’s family home two years earlier.

Clara’s voice shook.

“You told my mother that if I kept talking, my little brother would lose his scholarship. You said families like ours should be grateful for quiet money.”

Celeste’s face collapsed.

The guests recoiled from her as if cruelty were contagious.

My father looked at Celeste.

“You didn’t raise a monster by accident. You trained one.”

Celeste’s lips parted.

But no defense came.

Because the truth had finally entered the room wearing evidence.

And no amount of pearls could cover it.
