Chapter 2 - My Father’s VoiceThe speakers hidden in the ballroom ceiling cracked once.

Then my father’s voice filled the room.

“Ladies and gentlemen.”

The entire ballroom froze.

My father did not shout. He never needed to.

His calm was worse than rage.

“You are currently inside a private security lockdown authorized under estate emergency protocol. No one will leave until every crime committed tonight has been documented, every witness identified, and every recording preserved.”

Panic erupted again.

A senator slammed his palm against the steel barrier. “This is illegal!”

My father’s voice remained steady.

“Senator Blake, your driver is outside. So is your attorney. They are both being informed that you attempted to pressure my daughter into silence after witnessing an assault.”

The senator went pale.

The ballroom shifted.

Because now they understood.

This was not random.

This was not panic.

This was inventory.

My father knew who was here.

He knew where they were standing.

He knew what they had done.

Julian took a step backward.

I took one forward.

“Still think nobody came to save me?”

His mouth opened.

Nothing came out.

Then the grand staircase lit up.

A hidden panel slid open above the landing, and my father appeared.

Harrison Vale.

Seventy years old. Silver hair. Black suit. Straight-backed, cold-eyed, and more terrifying than any armed guard in the room.

He descended slowly.

Every step sounded like a sentence being passed.

When he reached the floor, he did not look at Julian first.

He looked at me.

His eyes moved to the bruise beneath my eye.

Then to the blood on my lip.

Something in his face changed.

Not loudly.

Not dramatically.

But the entire ballroom felt it.

The temperature seemed to drop.

May you like

“Who touched my daughter?” he asked.

Julian’s mother fainted before anyone answered.
