Chapter 3 - The Heir Who Forgot HistoryJulian Ashford had spent his entire life protected by three things: his last name, his father’s money, and everyone’s fear.

He had been raised in rooms like this one.

Rooms where consequences never entered unless escorted by servants.

He knew how to humiliate waitstaff without apology. How to threaten assistants with lawsuits. How to make scandals disappear before breakfast.

But he had forgotten something important.

Families like his survived by buying power.

Families like mine survived by surviving power.

My grandfather had arrived in America with nothing but a work permit and a cracked leather suitcase. He built the first Vale security firm out of a converted garage after protecting women no one else believed.

My father expanded it into a private protection empire.

And me?

I was supposed to inherit all of it.

Julian had not known that when he grabbed my arm.

He had not known that when he shoved me.

He had not known that when his friends laughed.

But now, trapped beneath steel and chandeliers, he was learning very quickly.

My father stopped beside me.

He didn’t hug me.

Not yet.

He simply removed a white handkerchief from his jacket pocket and handed it to me.

“Are you hurt badly?”

“No,” I said.

His jaw tightened because he knew I was lying.

Then he turned to Julian.

“You have ten seconds to explain why my daughter has blood on her mouth.”

Julian glanced around wildly, looking for allies.

He found none.

The same people who had laughed with him now avoided his eyes.

That was the thing about cowards.

They enjoyed violence until consequences asked for names.
