Chapter 1 - The Camera Above ThemMarcus Thorne did not move at first.

For one terrible second, he simply stood in the doorway of the private hospital suite, staring at his pregnant wife on the marble floor as if his mind refused to accept what his eyes were showing him.

Khloe’s white silk dress was twisted beneath her. One hand clutched the side of the table. The other held her stomach with desperate protection, as if her body could become a shield stronger than pain, stronger than betrayal, stronger than the hatred standing above her in a crimson gown.

Isabella Rossi’s face had changed so fast it almost looked supernatural.

The cruel woman who had kicked Khloe seconds earlier was gone.

In her place stood a trembling victim.

“She attacked me,” Isabella repeated, her voice breaking perfectly. “Marcus, I swear, she lost control. She said I was trying to steal you from her, and then she came at me.”

Elaine Parker, the event coordinator, took one step back. Her hand flew to her mouth.

Marcus’s expression hardened.

“Don’t,” he said.

The word was quiet.

Deadly.

Isabella blinked. “What?”

Marcus walked toward Khloe and dropped to his knees beside her. “Baby, look at me.”

Khloe tried to answer, but a wave of pain stole her breath. Her fingers tightened around his sleeve.

Marcus turned his head sharply. “Elaine, get a doctor. Now.”

Elaine ran.

Isabella took a cautious step forward. “Marcus, please. You have to believe me. She’s been unstable for weeks. Everyone saw how emotional she was tonight.”

Marcus did not even look at her.

That frightened Isabella more than anger would have.

Because Marcus Thorne was not a man who ignored people. He destroyed them, bought them, buried them, or dismissed them with a signature. But he never wasted silence unless his mind was already making a decision.

The hallway outside filled with footsteps.

Then a man entered the room in a dark tailored suit beneath a white physician’s coat.

Dr. Adrian Vale.

Khloe’s uncle.

The hospital’s chief director.

And one of the few men in the city powerful enough to look Marcus Thorne in the eye without fear.

Adrian saw Khloe on the floor.

The color drained from his face.

Then his eyes lifted to Isabella.

“What did you do?”

Isabella immediately began crying harder. “I didn’t do anything. She attacked me. I defended myself.”

Adrian did not blink.

Instead, he looked toward the ceiling.

Above the chandelier, nearly invisible behind a decorative bronze vent, a small black security camera faced the room.

Isabella followed his gaze.

And for the first time that night, real fear entered her eyes.

Adrian’s voice turned cold.

“This is a medical suite inside my hospital. Every private room has emergency security recording.”

Isabella’s mouth opened.

Nothing came out.

Marcus slowly stood.

Khloe was being lifted gently onto a stretcher as doctors rushed in around her. She reached for him, and he caught her hand.

“Stay with me,” she whispered.

“I’m here,” Marcus said. “I’m not leaving you.”

As the nurses pushed the stretcher toward the hallway, Isabella tried to follow.

Adrian stepped directly into her path.

“You are not going anywhere near my niece.”

Isabella’s tears vanished just enough to reveal panic beneath the performance. “You can’t hold me here.”

Adrian smiled without warmth.

“No,” he said. “But the police can.”

And as if the building itself had been waiting for that line, the hospital security doors at the end of the corridor opened.

Two uniformed officers stepped inside.

Behind them, a security technician hurried forward carrying a tablet.

On the screen, the footage was already loaded.

Isabella stared at it.

Every step.

Every shove.

Every cruel word.

Every second of her lie.

She had not destroyed Khloe’s marriage.

She had filmed her own downfall.
