Chapter 3 - Vincent Rossi ArrivesVincent Rossi did not rush.

Men like him never rushed. They entered rooms as though everyone inside already belonged to them.

His gaze swept over the hallway, the officers, the staff, the tablet, Marcus, Adrian, and finally Isabella.

For one brief moment, father and daughter looked at each other.

Isabella’s expression cracked with relief.

“Daddy,” she whispered.

Vincent lifted one hand.

She stopped speaking instantly.

That gesture told Marcus everything.

This was not a family built on affection. It was built on command.

Vincent turned to Officer Daniels. “My daughter is emotionally distressed. She will not be answering questions without counsel.”

Officer Daniels nodded. “She is being detained in connection with an assault.”

Vincent’s eyes narrowed. “A misunderstanding in a private room between two women?”

Adrian stepped forward. “A pregnant patient was attacked inside my hospital.”

Vincent’s mouth tightened. “Careful, Dr. Vale. Words like that create liability.”

Adrian did not flinch. “So does attempted witness intimidation.”

Vincent’s attorney leaned in and whispered something.

Vincent ignored him.

His attention shifted to Marcus. “This does not need to become a public war.”

Marcus’s laugh was quiet and humorless.

“My wife is in an emergency examination room because your daughter assaulted her.”

Vincent lowered his voice. “And you are a businessman. You understand what public scandal costs. The hospital, your company, my foundation, tonight’s charity event—everyone loses.”

Marcus stepped closer.

“No,” he said. “Your family loses.”

Vincent’s face hardened.

Isabella, desperate, said, “Marcus, please. I made a mistake. I was hurt. I wasn’t thinking.”

Marcus turned his eyes to her.

“Khloe asked you to leave.”

Isabella swallowed.

“You stayed.”

She looked away.

“You put your hands on her.”

No answer.

“You kicked her while she was on the floor.”

“I didn’t mean to hurt the baby,” Isabella whispered.

The hallway turned colder.

Marcus’s face changed.

Until that moment, he had been angry.

Now he looked dangerous.

Adrian placed a hand on Marcus’s shoulder. Not to comfort him. To anchor him.

A nurse appeared at the examination room doors.

“Mr. Thorne?”

Marcus turned instantly.

“Your wife is asking for you.”

He moved toward the room, but the nurse stopped him gently.

“She’s stable right now. The baby’s heartbeat is present. The doctor wants to keep her under observation.”

Marcus’s breath left him.

For the first time since entering the suite, his control slipped.

He looked like a husband, not a billionaire.

A man nearly broken by fear.

Then the nurse added, “She keeps asking whether Isabella is gone.”

Marcus turned back.

Officer Daniels took Isabella by the arm.

“This way.”

Vincent stepped forward. “You will regret humiliating my family.”

Adrian answered before Marcus could.

“No, Vincent. Tonight, your family humiliated itself.”

As Isabella was led toward the elevator, she looked back at Marcus.

There were no tears now.

Only hatred.

“You think she won,” Isabella said softly. “But you don’t know what she’s been hiding from you.”

Marcus stopped.

Vincent’s face changed so quickly most people missed it.

But Adrian saw.

May you like

And suddenly, the night was no longer only about an attack.

It was about a secret someone had buried long before Khloe entered that room.
