Chapter 16 - The CourtroomThe preliminary hearing drew a crowd large enough to block the courthouse steps.

Cameras flashed as Marcus helped Khloe from the car.

She wore black.

Simple. Elegant. Unshaken.

Isabella arrived separately, pale and hollow, no longer in red, no longer glowing with arrogance. Her father did not look at her.

That wounded her more than the cameras.

Inside the courtroom, prosecutors laid out the case.

Assault.

Conspiracy.

Witness intimidation.

Financial fraud.

Forgery.

Obstruction.

The judge listened without expression.

Vincent’s attorneys argued that the evidence was circumstantial, emotionally charged, and contaminated by media pressure.

Then Detective Cole played the full hospital footage.

The courtroom went silent.

There was no editing.

No spin.

No glamorous angle.

Only truth.

Khloe asking Isabella to leave.

Isabella shoving her.

Khloe trying to protect her baby.

Isabella striking again.

Marcus entering.

Isabella lying.

By the time the footage ended, even Vincent’s attorney looked uncomfortable.

Then came Isabella.

She took the stand under cooperation agreement.

Her hands trembled.

For once, she did not perform.

“My father told me Khloe Thorne was a threat,” she said. “He said if she gave birth, Marcus would gain control of shares that would expose old financial records. He told me to make her look unstable.”

The prosecutor asked, “Did Vincent Rossi instruct you to physically harm Khloe Thorne?”

Isabella looked at her father.

He stared back without emotion.

That was the moment she finally understood.

She had loved a father who saw her as a disposable instrument.

“No,” she whispered. “He told me to handle her quietly. I chose to hurt her.”

Khloe closed her eyes.

It was not enough.

But it was something.

Then Isabella added, “And afterward, he told my lawyer to say I acted alone.”

Vincent’s face darkened.

The prosecutor played the phone recording.

Vincent’s own words filled the courtroom.

The judge denied bail modification.

Vincent Rossi was taken into custody pending further proceedings.

For the first time in his life, the man who bought silence could not buy the door open.

As officers led him away, he turned to Marcus.

“You think this ends with me?”

Marcus stood.

“No,” he said. “It starts with you.”

Vincent’s eyes flicked to Khloe.

“You married into a graveyard.”

May you like

Khloe met his stare.

“Then I’ll plant something better there.”
