Chapter 6 - Isabella’s PhoneIsabella Rossi had never been inside an interrogation room before.

She hated everything about it.

The metal table. The gray walls. The buzzing light above her. The absence of mirrors. The fact that no one cared about her dress, her family name, her tears, or the fact that she had never been treated like an ordinary criminal in her life.

Her attorney sat beside her, speaking in low, controlled tones.

“Do not answer anything. Do not react. Let your father handle this.”

Isabella stared at the wall.

Her cheek twitched.

“They have video,” she whispered.

“They have an incident. We argue emotional distress.”

“She was pregnant.”

“Which is why you need to stop talking.”

The door opened.

Officer Daniels entered with a detective named Mariah Cole.

Detective Cole had a calm face and tired eyes. She looked like a woman who had seen too many rich people believe panic was the same thing as innocence.

She placed a plastic evidence bag on the table.

Inside was Isabella’s phone.

Isabella sat up. “You can’t take that.”

Cole smiled faintly. “We already did.”

“My personal information is on there.”

“I imagine so.”

The attorney leaned forward. “You do not have permission to search that device.”

Cole placed a warrant beside the bag.

The attorney stopped smiling.

Isabella’s breathing changed.

Because there were things on that phone no one could see.

Messages from her father.

Photos from Marcus’s office.

Voice notes she had recorded to protect herself.

And one video she had never meant to keep.

A video Vincent had sent her by mistake.

In it, he had not been speaking to her.

He had been speaking to someone named E.

Isabella had watched it three times in secret, trying to understand why her father sounded afraid.

“Khloe is getting close,” Vincent had said in the video. “If Marcus finds out the approvals were forged through Edward’s old access keys, everything collapses. Handle the wife. Quietly.”

Isabella had saved the video because for the first time in her life, she realized her father might sacrifice her too.

Now that video was inside a police evidence bag.

Her attorney noticed her face.

“What is on the phone, Isabella?”

She looked down.

“Nothing.”

Detective Cole watched her carefully.

People always said “nothing” like that when there was everything.

At the hospital, Marcus sat beside Khloe as she slept.

His phone rang.

Adrian stepped into the room and answered quietly.

A minute later, he looked at Marcus.

“The police found something on Isabella’s phone.”

Marcus stood.

Khloe stirred. “What?”

Adrian’s expression was grim.

“It may prove Vincent ordered her to intimidate you.”

Khloe’s hand moved to her stomach.

Marcus’s voice turned cold.

“Intimidate?”

Adrian hesitated.

Khloe already knew.

She whispered, “He told her to handle me.”

The room went silent.

Marcus leaned down and kissed her forehead.

May you like

Then he straightened.

“Then we stop playing defense.”
