Chapter 15 - Vincent’s Last MoveCornered men do not become harmless.

They become creative.
Vincent Rossi knew the ledger was gone. Isabella was cooperating. Peter Lang was suspended. Federal investigators were circling. His accounts were watched, his calls monitored, his allies turning silent.
So he chose the one weapon he had left.
Public doubt.
At eight the next morning, a statement appeared through a private media outlet loyal to Rossi money.
Sources close to the Rossi family claim Khloe Thorne manipulated evidence to seize control of the Thorne trust. Questions arise regarding the paternity clause and financial motive behind the scandal.
Marcus saw it first.
Then Adrian.
Then Khloe.
For three seconds, no one spoke.
Then Khloe laughed.
It was small and tired and dangerous.
Marcus looked ready to tear the city apart.
“They’re questioning the baby,” he said.
Khloe placed a hand on his arm. “No. They’re trying to make you react.”
“It’s obscene.”
“It’s strategy.”
Vincent could not prove innocence, so he tried to stain everyone else.
By noon, gossip accounts were spreading the story.
By one, anonymous sources claimed Khloe had trapped Marcus with a pregnancy.
By two, an edited photo of Khloe speaking with Adrian at the gala was being used to imply scandal, even though Adrian was her uncle.
The internet did what it always did.
It consumed before it understood.
Khloe’s doctors wanted to restrict her stress.
Marcus wanted to sue everyone immediately.
Celeste wanted to release a statement sharp enough to draw blood.
Khloe wanted something better.
She asked for a camera.
Marcus frowned. “No.”
“Yes.”
“You don’t owe them anything.”
“You’re right,” Khloe said. “I owe myself.”
Two hours later, Khloe sat in a chair beside the hospital window. No glam team. No diamonds. No perfect lighting. Just a pale woman in a soft blue robe, seven months pregnant, with a bruise of exhaustion beneath her eyes and steel in her voice.
The video lasted ninety seconds.
“My name is Khloe Thorne. Last night, I was attacked while pregnant. The person who hurt me has been arrested. The people who sent her are being investigated.”
She looked directly into the camera.
“I will not defend my child’s existence for public entertainment. I will not prove my pain to strangers. And I will not allow powerful people to turn a crime into gossip because truth is inconvenient for them.”
Her voice remained calm.
“That is all I will say.”
Marcus posted it.
Within minutes, the public shifted.
Not everyone.
Never everyone.
But enough.
Women shared it.
Mothers shared it.
Nurses shared it.
People who had watched wealthy families rewrite truth for years shared it with fury.
Vincent’s smear campaign backfired.

Because Khloe had not looked weak.
She had looked untouchable.
